History
The centre opened in June 1999 in the Crossways Community Project premises and was called the Tenant Resource Centre. The name was changed as it was felt the word tenant was misleading, and we wanted to identify more closely with the residents of Gosport.
The Gosport Borough Council's Housing Forum members and the Housing Customer Service Team worked together to give tenants and leaseholders free office facilities and independent advice on Housing Issues.
Shortly after opening we were nominated for a 'Participation Into Practice' award and were delighted when we were voted runner up.
The Gosport Resource Centre at the Crossways was closed in 2002 due to the building being condemned. In April 2003 new premises were leased for the Gosport Recource Centre (GRC) at 50 Stoke Road and opened after the building was renovated, made into a modern office facility, a small kitchen and a toilet added, and converted to give access to the disabled.
The GRC opened at the end of July 2003 and is a facility for tenants and leaseholders giving equility of access to all who wish to use the facility. The Housing Service at Gosport Borough Council funds the project through the Resident Involvement Team.
Training has been given to the volunteers who administer and run the GRC both on how to be inclusive to any customers and on the equipment.
In August 2005 we became a Company Limited by Guarantee and are also applying for charitable status.
